Biorobotics Undergraduate Work

Prototyping concepts, moving mechanisms

During my undergraduates, I worked in a bio-robotics lab at the Technion. There, I worked on designing a miniature mechanism that is a prototype for the commercial product from AposTherapy. This mechanism was designed to fit under a show, withstanding high loaded and forces.

Rotation and translation mechanism

This design included a complex mechanisms with two moving worm screws as well as a costum made worm wheel. This mechanisms eables to both rotate and translate the center wheel which is connected to the patented pads by AposTherapy. It was an early prototype designed for research purposes. This clip captures the prototype in motion. Turning both motors in opposite directions rotates the worm wheel and output. Turning both motors in the same direction translates the worm wheel and output forwards or backwards.

Finite Elements Simulations

The work involved simulating the high forces during walk or running. I did that using Solidworks finite elements simulations. The video shows the amount of displacement experienced under these conditions. This was later used to thicken the base plate, allowing less deformation.
